Artist Bio:

Simple Minds are one of the most successful and influential bands to emerge from Scotland, with a career spanning more than four decades.

Formed in Glasgow in 1977, the band were fronted from the beginning by singer Jim Kerr, alongside guitarist Charlie Burchill, who has remained a constant member throughout their journey. Their early sound combined post-punk, new wave and art rock, gradually developing into the huge, atmospheric style that would make them international stars.

Simple Minds broke through in the 1980s with albums including ‘New Gold Dream (81-82-83-84)’, ‘Sparkle in the Rain’ and ‘Once Upon a Time’. Their biggest global hit, ‘Don’t You (Forget About Me)’, became an anthem after featuring in the 1985 film The Breakfast Club and remains one of the defining songs of the era.

Over the years, the band have sold more than 60 million records worldwide, achieved five UK No.1 albums and built a reputation as a formidable live act. Their catalogue includes favourites such as ‘Alive and Kicking’, ‘Promised You a Miracle’, ‘Waterfront’ and ‘Someone Somewhere in Summertime’.

While their music is closely associated with the 1980s, Simple Minds have never stopped moving forward. They have continued to release new music and tour internationally, introducing their songs to new generations while retaining the sound and ambition that first made them stand out.

With Jim Kerr and Charlie Burchill still at the heart of the band, Simple Minds remain a major force in British rock and continue to bring their celebrated catalogue to audiences around the world.

Artist News:

The Glasgow band will perform live at arenas across the UK in spring 2027, following the release of their new studio album ‘Sacrosanct’ on 29 January 2027. The record will be their first studio album since 2022s ‘Direction Of The Heart’.

The band have also shared the first single from the album, ‘Beginner Boys’. Written by frontman Jim Kerr, the track was inspired by watching his twin grandsons grow up and reflecting on what it means to raise a good man in a world filled with mixed messages.

‘Sacrosanct’ will feature eight tracks, including ‘Our Secrets Are The Same’, which explores the lifelong friendship between Kerr and guitarist Charlie Burchill. The pair first met on a Glasgow street when they were just eight years old.

The album came together during a busy period of touring for Simple Minds. Their 2025 shows reached more than 1.5 million people, while a North American run saw Kerr and Burchill revisit the art-rock and new-wave influences of their early material, including songs from Sons And Fascination. That renewed energy helped shape the new record.

The V Tour continues a remarkable career for Simple Minds, who have sold more than 60 million records worldwide and achieved five UK No. 1 albums. Their iconic hit ‘Don’t You (Forget About Me)’ has also passed one billion Spotify streams.

Before the new album arrives, Simple Minds will headline BBC Radio 2 In The Park at Stirling’s City Park on 13 September, marking their only UK performance of 2026.
