Artist Bio:
Sam Fender is one of Britain’s biggest contemporary singer-songwriters, known for his powerful vocals, guitar-driven indie rock and honest lyrics about life, love and growing up. Born in North Shields in 1996, Fender has become one of the most successful artists of his generation, combining the sound of classic rock with stories rooted in his own experiences and working-class upbringing in the North East.
Fender’s musical journey began to gather pace in his teens, when he was discovered by Ben Howard’s manager. His debut single, ‘Play God’, arrived in 2017, showcasing his songwriting talent and influences, which include Bruce Springsteen and Jeff Buckley. Further releases brought growing attention, earning him a place on the BBC’s Sound of 2018 list and a record deal with Polydor.
His debut EP, ‘Dead Boys’, followed in 2018, with its title track addressing the difficult subject of male suicide. The song established Fender as a songwriter unafraid to tackle serious issues, a quality that has remained central to his music. In 2019, he won the BRITs Critics’ Choice Award before releasing his debut album, ‘Hypersonic Missiles’, which received widespread critical acclaim and reached No.1 in the UK.
Fender’s second album, ‘Seventeen Going Under’, arrived in 2021 and took his career to another level. The album topped the UK charts, while its title track became one of his signature songs, combining a driving rock sound with deeply personal lyrics about adolescence, family and the struggles of growing up. The record earned him further awards and a Mercury Prize nomination, cementing his reputation as one of the UK’s most compelling songwriters.
His growing popularity translated into major live performances, including a standout appearance on Glastonbury’s Pyramid Stage and a sold-out headline show at London’s Finsbury Park in 2022. In 2023, Fender made history as the first Geordie musician to headline Newcastle’s St. James’ Park, playing two huge homecoming shows that underlined his connection with his hometown and its music fans.
In 2024, Fender announced his ‘People Watching’ tour, with UK arena dates supporting his third studio album of the same name. Released in 2025, ‘People Watching’ continued his run of chart success, exploring themes of everyday life, relationships and the people who shape us. His music has also reached new audiences through ‘Rein Me In’, his hit collaboration with Olivia Dean, which became a major chart success.
With a reputation for passionate live performances and songs that connect with audiences on a personal level, Fender has established himself as a leading figure in British rock.
Artist News:
Sam Fender is heading for his biggest headline shows yet, with the North Shields singer-songwriter set to take his Proper Massive Stadium Tour across the UK & Dublin in summer 2027.
The tour will kick off with two shows at Newcastle’s St. James’ Park, a fitting homecoming for the Geordie star, before heading to stadiums across Cardiff, London, Dublin, Edinburgh and Manchester.
The huge dates mark another huge milestone in Fender’s career, which has seen him grow from a promising young songwriter into one of Britain’s biggest rock acts. Known for his honest lyrics, powerful vocals and anthemic sound, he has built a loyal following with songs that tackle everything from growing up and relationships to mental health and life in the North East.
Fender first broke through with his 2017 single ‘Play God’, followed by his debut album ‘Hypersonic Missiles’ in 2019. His second album, ‘Seventeen Going Under’, arrived in 2021 and became a major success, with its title track striking a chord with fans through its deeply personal look at growing up and the pressures of working-class life.
His rise has been matched by major live performances, including a huge headline show at London’s Finsbury Park in 2022 and his historic homecoming concerts at Newcastle’s St. James’ Park in 2023. His third album, ‘People Watching’, continued that momentum, while his collaboration with Olivia Dean on ‘Rein Me In’ became another defining moment in his career.
