Deacon Blue are a Scottish rock band known for their uplifting songs, memorable melodies and a catalogue that has remained popular across generations. Formed in Glasgow in 1985, the band have enjoyed a career spanning more than four decades, with their music continuing to connect with audiences both on record and on stage.
Their story began with ‘Raintown’, the acclaimed debut album released in 1987. Featuring fan favourites including ‘Dignity’, ‘When Will You (Make My Telephone Ring)’, ‘Chocolate Girl’ and ‘Loaded’, the album became a defining release of the band’s early career and has since achieved Platinum status.
Deacon Blue followed ‘Raintown’ with two more Platinum albums, building a successful catalogue that has earned them 12 UK Top 40 singles and two UK No.1 albums, ‘When The World Knows Your Name’ and the compilation ‘Our Town’.
The band have sold more than seven million records worldwide and continue to tour regularly, with hundreds of sold-out shows behind them. Their most recent album, ‘The Great Western Road’, reached No.3 in the UK Albums Chart, proving that their appeal and creative energy remain as strong as ever.

Deacon Blue are set to celebrate 40 years of their iconic debut album ‘Raintown’ with a special run of UK and Ireland shows in autumn 2027.
The band will play arena dates across the UK & Ireland, performing ‘Raintown’ in full alongside songs from their much-loved catalogue. Released in 1987, the album marked the beginning of Deacon Blue’s remarkable career and featured early favourites including ‘Dignity’, ‘When Will You (Make My Telephone Ring)’ and ‘Loaded’.
With hundreds of sold-out shows and a career spanning more than four decades, Deacon Blue have built a catalogue that continues to connect with audiences. Their most recent album, ‘The Great Western Road’, showed that the band’s creative spark remains as strong as ever.
While the anniversary tour will give fans the chance to hear ‘Raintown’ from start to finish, Deacon Blue are also looking ahead, continuing to write, record and evolve while celebrating the songs that have become such an important part of their story.
Ricky Ross commented, “When we made our first record none of us imagined there would be an audience still wanting to hear it played live forty years on. To recreate the songs and the atmosphere of that debut album will be a great joy for us. Although each night will feature Raintown as the first part of the concert, the second act will include songs from all our albums and we aim to make each night a unique experience.
