Simply Red are one of the UK’s best-loved bands, combining soulful vocals, pop melodies and a distinctive sound that has kept them at the forefront of British music for more than four decades.

Formed in Manchester in 1985, the band are led by singer Mick Hucknall, whose unmistakable voice has become one of the defining features of Simply Red’s music. They first found major success with their debut album, ‘Picture Book’, released in 1985 and featuring the hit singles ‘Holding Back the Years’ and ‘Money’s Too Tight (To Mention)’.

Their success continued throughout the late 1980s and 1990s with albums including ‘Men and Women’, ‘A New Flame’, ‘Stars’ and ‘Life’. ‘Stars’ became one of the UK’s biggest-selling albums of the 1990s, while the band went on to score five UK No.1 albums and numerous hit singles.

Simply Red’s catalogue includes some of their most recognisable songs, including ‘If You Don’t Know Me By Now’, ‘Fairground’, ‘Something Got Me Started’, ‘For Your Babies’ and ‘Sunrise’. Their music blends soul, pop, jazz and R&B, giving the band a sound that has remained instantly recognisable over the years.

Simply Red are heading back on the road in summer 2027 with a series of UK and European shows as part of their Summer Funk ’27 tour.

The tour will see Mick Hucknall and the band perform across a run of major outdoor venues, including London’s Gunnersbury Park and The Piece Hall in Halifax.

Hucknall will be joined by long-serving saxophonist Ian Kirkham and Simply Red’s current touring line-up, bringing together more than four decades of music and some of the band’s best-loved songs.

With five UK No.1 albums and a career spanning more than 40 years, Simply Red have built a catalogue that continues to resonate with audiences around the world.

Ahead of the tour, Simply Red will release a new live recording of their version of the Four Tops classic ‘Reach Out I’ll Be There’, due out on 24 September 2026, giving fans another taste of what’s to come.
