Darkwave duo Boy Harsher have announced their highly anticipated new album ‘Get Mean’, due out on 18 September 2026 via Atlantic Records.

The new record sees Jae Matthews and Augustus Muller exploring themes of love, loss, heartbreak and survival, marking one of the most personal releases of their career. Described as a record about redemption, ‘Get Mean’ documents the difficult journey through grief and the strength found in moving forward.

Alongside the album announcement, the duo have shared new single and video ‘Hard Beat’. Directed by Boy Harsher alongside cinematographer Owen Smith-Clark, the cinematic video explores themes of surveillance, trauma and identity, drawing inspiration from Helmut Newton’s photography and Greg Araki’s films.

The release follows a challenging period for the band, with Matthews and Muller facing personal changes and uncertainty around the future of Boy Harsher. After the end of their relationship and a period of creative and emotional upheaval, Matthews began travelling across the US, reflecting on change, loneliness and identity, eventually inspiring the beginnings of a new Boy Harsher record.

The result is ‘Get Mean’, a 12-track collection that blends the duo’s signature dark electronic sound with new influences and textures. While retaining the hypnotic synths, driving coldwave rhythms and haunting vocals that have become central to Boy Harsher’s identity, the album also explores new territory with New Romantic-inspired guitar textures, experimental electronics and unexpected pop influences.

Since forming in 2014, Boy Harsher have built one of underground music’s most dedicated fanbases. Their breakout EP Lesser Man, featuring fan-favourite track ‘Pain’, helped establish their unique blend of darkwave, industrial and electronic music, followed by acclaimed releases including ‘Yr Body Is Nothing’, ‘Careful’ and 2022s ‘The Runner’ album and film project.

With their atmospheric production, powerful live performances and unmistakable sound, Boy Harsher have become one of the most influential names in modern dark electronic music, bringing their underground roots to audiences around the world.
