Last time we saw Mimi Webb was at this venue, but in the much smaller room, and that was pre-pandemic. She had already had a few hits and the room, although the small one, was full of has to be said, mainly young females. Tonight, it’s the Academy main room, same thing sold out, but we did notice a larger ratio of male attendees, which is good. First time Mimi gave a really good performance, but did look a little nervy, but a lot has happened since. And continuing the impressive output of hits, her debut album ‘Amelia’ only just released has already spawned several big hits, ‘House On Fire’, ‘Ghost Of You’, ‘Red Flag’ and the latest ‘Freezing’. Apart from the quality of the songs, Mimi has grown in confidence immensely and owns the stage, thrilling the packed out O2, which at times turned into a large karaoke with Mimi occasionally egging them on pointing the mike at them for their turn. Obviously, the majority of the set was from ‘Amelia’, it’s to be expected, and it was nice to see on the couple of slower tunes – Mimi showed just how good her voice is. The future is looking good for Mimi Webb, and on this showing, I wouldn’t be surprised at a larger venue next time again, go on Mimi.
