To say Luke Combs is big news is an understatement. Worldwide, if you needed proof, how many stars can you name who have sold out Wembley Stadium for three nights on the trot, let alone a country singer? This follows two sold-out, massive concerts in Scotland, and to say these dates on his My Kinda Saturday Night Tour were highly anticipated would be another understatement.

The atmosphere was electric, and when Combs ambled onto the stage, it erupted. From then on, there was little respite, only a couple of moments when Luke Combs told the crowd about the meaning behind certain songs and gave a heartfelt thank you for their support, explaining how he could never have imagined ever playing at Wembley Stadium.

In a set of 25, yes 25, songs, he proved why he is so huge. Massive tune after massive tune, delivered with a cracking voice and a fantastic band. But there is something about Combs himself; he is relatable. He hasn’t got where he is by being glamorous or fashionable, but simply by being himself and having a talent for writing great songs. That, to be honest, really came alive in the stadium tonight. Wow.

He also gives his band members a chance to highlight their talent, with individual songs including ‘Crazy Train’, ‘She Will Be Loved’, ‘Billie Jean’, ‘I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing’ and ‘Something Like That’. It was nice to see.

To pick a highlight is impossible; just look at the set list. ‘Hurricane’, ‘She Got The Best Of Me’, ‘Sleepless In A Hotel Room’, ‘Back In The Saddle’, ‘The Kind Of Love We Make’, ‘Beautiful Crazy’ – the list goes on. The whole concert was incredible, as was the sound, with several moments when the crowd took over the lead and nobody wanted the night to end.

But it had to, and after Combs returned to the stage alone with his guitar, delivering a brilliant version of Tracy Chapman’s ‘Fast Car’, followed by ‘Where The Wild Things Are’, before finishing with a thumping version of ‘Ain’t No Love In Oklahoma’, it was over.

Leaving 72,000 people with an incredible memory, I suspect this won’t be the last time we get the chance to see Luke Combs in the UK or at a stadium. The interest has only heightened.
