Artist Bio:
Jorja Smith has established herself as one of the UK’s most distinctive R&B artists, known for her soulful vocals, thoughtful songwriting and effortlessly laid-back sound. Born and raised in Walsall, Smith started making music while still at school, uploading covers and early songs online. Her breakthrough came with ‘Blue Lights’, which quickly put her on the radar, followed by ‘Where Did I Go?’, a track that caught Drake’s attention and helped introduce Smith to a much wider audience.
In 2017, Smith joined Drake on his Boy Meets World tour as a special guest and featured on two tracks from his ‘More Life ‘mixtape. Around the same time, she worked with artists including Kali Uchis and Preditah and released ‘Teenage Fantasy’, while also becoming the first independent artist to win the BRITs Critics’ Choice Award.
Her debut album, ‘Lost & Found’, arrived in 2018 to widespread critical acclaim. Blending R&B, soul, jazz and electronic influences, the album showcased Smith’s distinctive voice and understated approach to songwriting. She went on to tour extensively across the UK, Europe and North America.
Smith picked up her second BRIT Award in 2019, winning British Female Solo Artist. She continued to build her career through collaborations with artists including Burna Boy and Popcaan, as well as hosting her own BBC Radio 3 show, Tearjerker, which explored the emotional connection people have with music.
In 2021, Smith returned with the ‘Be Right Back’ EP, which she described as a “waiting room” while she worked towards her second album. ‘Falling or Flying’ followed in 2023, bringing together her R&B and soul roots with jazz, electronic and hip-hop influences.
With two acclaimed albums behind her and a growing list of collaborations and accolades, Smith continues to evolve as an artist while remaining one of the most exciting voices in contemporary British R&B.
