Artist Bio:
Jack Johnson is an American singer-songwriter, musician and filmmaker known for his laid-back blend of acoustic rock, folk and soft pop. Raised in Hawaii, he developed a love of surfing from an early age before finding success in music, bringing together the relaxed feel of island life and thoughtful songwriting that has earned him fans around the world.
Before his music career took off, Johnson was a keen surfer and filmmaker, making surf films that reflected his passion for the ocean and outdoor life. Music gradually took centre stage, and his debut album, ‘Brushfire Fairytales’, was released in 2001. Its warm acoustic sound and easy-going melodies helped establish his signature style.
His breakthrough continued with ‘On and On’ in 2003, followed by ‘In Between Dreams’ in 2005. The latter became one of his best-known albums, featuring fan favourites such as ‘Better Together’, ‘Banana Pancakes’ and ‘Good People’. These songs helped make Johnson a familiar name internationally, with his music finding a home on radio, at festivals and in relaxed summer playlists.
Over the years, Johnson has released eight studio albums and three live albums, selling more than 25 million copies worldwide. His catalogue includes songs that combine gentle acoustic arrangements with lyrics about relationships, everyday life and the world around him. His live performances have become known for their intimate atmosphere, even when playing to large audiences.
Environmental awareness has also been central to Johnson’s work. Alongside his wife, Kim, he founded the Kōkua Hawaiʻi Foundation, which supports environmental education in schools and communities across Hawaii, and the Johnson Ohana Foundation, which supports environmental, art and music education around the world. His touring team and record label have also worked to reduce the environmental impact of live music, while his All At Once network connects fans with local non-profit organisations at tour stops. His music and charitable activities have helped generate more than $40 million for good causes.
Artist News:
Jack Johnson is heading back to the UK next summer as part of his SURFILMUSIC European tour, with a headline show at London’s The O2 in July 2027, alongside two nights at Cornwall’s Eden Sessions.
The London date will form part of The O2’s 20th birthday celebrations and will see Johnson joined by special guests Ben Harper, Donavon Frankenreiter and G. Love. Longtime friends Donavon Frankenreiter and G. Love will also team up for a special duo performance on selected dates across the wider tour.
The tour takes its name from ‘SURFILMUSIC’, a documentary exploring Johnson’s journey from surfer and filmmaker to internationally successful musician. Featuring archive footage, early surf films and present-day reflections, the film looks at how his love of the ocean, friendships and life in Hawaii have shaped his music over the years.
That mix of surf culture, laid-back songwriting and a genuine connection with his audience has become a big part of Johnson’s appeal. Fans heading to the 2027 shows can expect to hear favourites from his extensive catalogue, brought to the stage alongside the spirit and stories behind the documentary.
