Tom Odell

The evening started with Tom Odell at the piano bathed in low lighting, and bravely, the numbers were two from his latest album ‘Black Friday’, ‘Somebody Else’ and ‘The End’. Both very emotive songs, and slow, but the applause proved that it actually worked. Having pulled that off he upped the pace a little with ‘Can’t Pretend’, with its increasing tempo into a frenetic end, followed by manic ‘Magnetised’, with Odell nearly shouting toward the end, which belied the slow start!

All through the night Tom Odell raised the pace and then dropped it, as he does so well. A couple of times he walked across the walkway in front of the stage for some impassioned numbers, ‘Lose You Again’, and a tour debut of ‘Fighting With Fire’, almost screaming the words out towards the end to the sold out crowd, and they/we loved it.

Yes, the old favourites were there, ‘Best Day Of My Life’, ‘Grow Old With Me’ and ‘Another Love’, of course, but they may soon be joined by a couple of tracks from ‘Black Friday’.
