The Royston Club have shared new single ‘30/20’ ahead of the release of their much-anticipated second album, ‘Songs For The Spine’, due out this Friday (08 August).

Discussing the track, guitarist and main songwriter Ben Matthias commented, “I wrote ‘30/20’ after spending a weekend back home in Wrexham. I was feeling guilty about the lack of visits back home throughout the past year and this guilt reached a sort of peak when I found myself speeding over the new 20 mph speed limit.

Wales had lowered the 30mph speed limit to 20mph the year before and I had simply forgot because I was now living in England. I felt a strange guilt when I realised my mistake and started questioning whether I had made the right decision leaving my home and putting blind faith in a song.”

‘30/20’ follows recent singles ‘Cariad’, ‘Glued To The Bed’, ‘Shivers’ and ‘The Patch Where Nothing Grows’ in previewing ‘Songs From The Spine’.

Produced by Rich Turvey (Blossoms, Rachel Chinouriri), the new record stays true to the escapist indie-rock energy that first put them on the map, while also pushing their sound in new directions – at times darker, more anthemic, and more exploratory. Ben’s lyrics have evolved too, inspired by his admiration for Nick Cave’s poetic flair.

The band have been drawing huge reactions from young crowds at their headline shows, and this autumn they’ll perform to 16,000 fans on their UK headline tour.

Following a run of high-profile festival appearances this summer – including Neighbourhood Weekender and TRNSMT, with main stage sets at Reading and Leeds still to come – they’ve also joined Liam Gallagher, Kasabian and The Lathums as special guests on tour.
