The Fabulous Courettes

We first came across this Brazilian/Dutch duo a little while ago and were blown away with their mix of sixties girl band, wall of sound, surf music and doo-wop, sounds. And getting rave live reviews on this tour supporting their latest album ‘The Soul Of…’ we were really excited to having the chance of seeing them, and they didn’t disappoint.

What a joyous sixties flavoured night, which was enjoyed by the very well attended Night Owl, who were treated to an energy packed performance. And obviously singer/guitarist Flávia Couri is the focal point of the night, but husband Martin puts in a hell of a shift on drums believe me.

Playing 16 songs, which was of course heavy on their new stuff, and throwing in some trad Courettes tunes, Flávia is one hell of a performer and shows no fear and at one point pointing out she wanted to crowd surf, which she did, to the rear bar and back! This album, ‘The Soul Of…’, is getting fantastic reviews all round. And it’s only right as it is an excellent third album, and we are sure that the size of the venues will get bigger and bigger. So do yourself a favour, catch this fantastic band live soon as you can.
