Chappell Roan has released the official studio recording of her new single ‘The Subway’, out now on Amusement / Island Records.
The track was produced by and co-written with Daniel Nigro and is accompanied by an official music video. Directed by Amber Grace Johnson (Jorja Smith, FKA Twigs, Lolo Zouaï), the visual was shot on location in New York City.
Roan shares, “The cliche of “the girl that got away” barely scratches the surface for me with this song. I wrote it as I was stumbling around New York with a broken heart and I kept envisioning us on every street, fire escape, coffee shop, park and yes… the subway.”

‘The Subway’ follows Roan’s hotly anticipated 2025 single “The Giver”, which debuted earlier this year at No.2 on the Official Charts in the UK.
The character of Chappell Roan, in all her fabulous glory, truly began to take shape with 2020s ‘Pink Pony Club’. The track went on to reach No.1 on the UK Official Singles Chart five years after its initial release, gaining traction after being included on her 2023 debut album, ‘The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess’.
Known for her larger-than-life stage presence inspired by drag and burlesque, Chappell Roan turns every performance into an all-out dance party that draws everyone in.
