Cardiff is a city on the up – it’s a relatively small city with great transport links so easy to get to, whichever venue catches your eye. It’s a hub of music, sport and creativity, so there will always be something for you to enjoy.

As well as larger gig venues like the Utilita Arena, with a capacity of 7,500, and the Principality Stadium, you can explore a range of smaller venues. The Globe, for example, is a former cinema with a capacity of 350 which produces intense and unforgettable experiences. Cardiff’s newest venue is the Tramshed which brings the best new music and comedy to a 1,000-capacity venue housed in a historical building in the creative hub of Cardiff city centre. Cardiff is also home to one of the small chain of Glee Clubs which welcomes local and international acts to its stage.

Wales has a reputation for producing some top class singers so it’s not surprising many famous bands began their musical careers in Cardiff. As well as huge solo artists like Charlotte Church and Dame Shirley Bassey, there’s a wealth of rock bands including Manic Street Preachers, Super Furry Animals, Feeder and the Stereophonics.

Stereophonics usually make a stop in the Welsh city while they’re touring and have played several massive gigs in Cardiff over the last decade. They made headlines in 2010 when they became the first band to headline the Cardiff City Stadium, playing to a sell-out crowd of more than 30,000.

Beyonce stopped in Cardiff on her Formation tour in 2016 and didn’t let the fact that she was ankle deep in water when playing at the Principality Stadium stop her from wowing a packed audience. One of the biggest bands in the world, Coldplay, also performed at the venue when they brought their acclaimed Music of the Spheres tour to Wales in 2023.

Some gigs in Cardiff to keep an eye out for in 2024 include Paloma Faith, Thirty Seconds to Mars, The Black Keys, Girls Aloud, Journey and Becky Hill.
